Bound - Dog Walking Case Study
It can be difficult to find a trusted and reliable dog walker on short notice. The thought of finding and booking someone quickly and securely seems unlikely.
Bound is on a mission to create an effortless booking experience using clear and simple UI and a secure vetting process for peace of mind.
The Challenge
For various reasons, many people have to schedule a dog walker on short notice, sometimes within the next day or sometimes within the next hour. In these scenarios users expect a booking app to function much like a rideshare, with an intuitive and uncomplicated UI that allows for fast and easy account creation, booking parameters, messaging, and confirmation.
?
To help answer additional questions and concerns regarding this proposal, I sent out a survey to 10 dog-owner friends. There were several points that the participants agreed on.?
60% have had to quickly find a dog walker in the past
90% believe a background check is an essential component of a dog walking app
70% Are feel confident that their dog is well cared for when booking a walker
The Solution
Based on my research findings, the goal of the app is to:
Create an seamless experience designed for prompt booking
Provide a vetting process including a background check for transparency amongst all users on the platform.
Market Analysis
The dog walking app market has roughly three popular options; Rover, Wag!, and Barkley Pets. In reviewing these apps, I looked at three things:
The level of effort required to set up an account, schedule a walk,
and book a walker
What kind of information is featured in a walker profile
Are walkers insured and have they gone through a background check
Rover has the largest audience and offers the most feature-rich UI of all the apps, but the options are a bit overwhelming, including boarding, house sitting, drop-in visits, daycare, and finally dog walking. This is a great app for reaching a large audience of dog owners. It was easy to enter preferences and find a matching walker in your area, and I appreciated the level of detail on the walker profile page.?
Wag! Is also fairly feature-rich, and gives the option of 20, 30 minute, and 1 hour time blocks, which is suitable for on-demand walking.
Both of the options offer some form of insurance and background checks.
User Flow and Wireframes
The goal of the user flow was ease of use and clarity. As the Bound app only features dog walking, it does not need to be feature rich, rather it needs to include the necessary information for a user to feel secure in booking an appointment on short notice.
Visual Design
The visual design for the Bound app is meant to complement the streamlined user flow by using a bright primary color for call-to-actions and subtle complimentary colors.
A simple and intuitive UI and engaging visual design make the Bound app prototype an ideal solution for users looking for a fast booking process and accurate walker profiles that match their needs and interests.
