Moon – Welcome to the new wave of digital art.
A punchy app design for an up-and-coming NFT platform.
The challenge
To create an interesting app design for Moon, a new up-and-coming startup with the goal of revolutionizing the NFT marketplace business with a design-first approach and a deeply curated experience for the users.?
The audience
The audience for this app are people who are already immersed in the NFT world or similar, in one way or another. The users are tech-savvy, with an appreciation for strong visual aesthetic.
Nailing down an aesthetic
In researching NFT as well as crypto and other tech applications, I noticed there were two groupings of design styles I could identify at a high level; one being a stark white design, and another being a more dark mode focused style.
Using this information, I built out two moodboards, each focusing on one of these styles. I borrowed inspiration from not only NFT, crypto and tech products, but also other websites and applications that simply had components I found visually interesting that would help get me to a solution that was interesting and unique.
From there, I played around with different colour palettes, typography, button styles etc. on a couple of different wireframes to identify what I thought would be a successful design solution for this application.
Final design
The final design I landed on I chose because I found I had struck a good balance with the colour palette chosen, and creating a design that felt like it was somewhat original and interesting in its design
The design itself took inspiration from a website that utilized navy blue as a background colour rather than a grey/black that you see very often now. I focused on the word "wave" within the splash screen text to create the visuals on the splash screen, and carried the softness of those shapes through the rest of the design by using rounded buttons and fairly rounded corners on the images.
In order to ensure the build out of the application would be utilizing a consistent system, I built out the type stack, colour palette, grid system, components, and modules for the design system. This included making considerations for function within the prototype.
Prototype
The final prototype showcases how a user would navigate through the main screens of the app, as well as interaction with a couple of the components.
