Galerija Centrs
Brand:
In the early 2000s, a wave of new shopping centers emerged across Riga, yet Galerija Centrs distinguished itself not merely through its retail offerings but as a vibrant cultural and social nexus, artfully blending the past with the present. Originally inaugurated in 1938 as the Army Department Store, it has undergone extensive renovations.
Challenge:
In 2006, the center was reimagined into a contemporary retail haven, seamlessly integrating a modern section across a historic thoroughfare while honoring its architectural heritage. Its striking glass-roofed arcade, which elegantly links two buildings and bathes the interior in natural light, marks it as the first shopping gallery of its kind in the Baltic States.
Solution:
Through meticulous examination of historical architecture, analysis of contemporary blueprints, and consultations with renovation experts, the solution emerged: to embrace the concept of three (III):
- A three-line motif woven throughout the historic structure.
- The historic edifice, the glass arcade bridging buildings over the street, and the new addition.
- Past, Present, Future.
Elegant historic typography has been artfully modernized, seamlessly blending timeless charm with contemporary flair.
