Who are you?
Hi! I’m Bailey, an illustrator from Austin, TX currently living in Brooklyn. I work as an environmental designer on WeWork’s Art and Graphics team, Lunch Money, where we create murals, wallpapers, neons and other various art moments throughout our workspaces. Outside of that I sometimes freelance, sometimes binge-watch bad reality TV, and most times do both together.
What are you working on?
Right now I’m working on some floor mosaics for a WeWork in Rio. I’m really excited because it’s totally new to me and not something I ever thought I’d have the opportunity to do! I’m also wrapping up a charity poster for a freelance client and very slowly working on a personal zine.
Choose a favorite shot of yours. Why is it a favorite?
I think this Fleet Foxes shot is one of my favorites. I made it on one of those days where I was exhausted from doing stuff for other people and really needed to just come home and do something that was 100% me. I usually do anything I can to avoid working with typography, but I thought this would be a fun challenge to incorporate it.
Tell us about your setup. What tools did you use to create the shot (e.g. hardware, software, pens, paper, blowtorch)?
Well, it’s not much, but I love my new personal office! Living in New York has been a big adjustment on learning how to live without much space, and until my recent move to a larger apartment, my desk was basically connected to my bed which was also basically connected to my tiny closet. I do just about everything on the desktop, but I bought an iPad and Apple Pencil a few months ago and it’s been a surprisingly huge help.
Choose a favorite shot from another Player. Why do you dig?it?
Dang, so many to choose from. I love this shot from Owen Davey’s Mad About Monkeys book. His style is so unique, and I love his colors and textures. I’m a total fan of everything he does, and if I’m not mistaken it’s all created in Photoshop, which like— extra blows my mind.
